This week on the blog I’m so thrilled to welcome the awesome Rachel Gadiel who is one chick who knows a thing or two about how to set killer goals AND how to achieve them!

I’m not going to waste anytime so I’ll swiftly hand you over to Rach so she can share with you the secret to rocking your goals!

Over to you Rachel……

Hello! I’m Rachel Gadiel and I teach smart and driven women to live a happier, more joyful life; reconnect with their highest truth + live on their own terms.

I’m super honoured Ainslie has invited me here today to talk about one of my favourite topics: how to set goals, intentionally.

With 2016 fast approaching it’s no doubt you’ve already started thinking about what the year will look like for you; what your goals and dreams are, and working out a plan for how you will get there.

So, I want to start by asking you a question:

When it comes to setting goals, what is the number one thing that stops you from reaching them?

Is it that you get disheartened when you realise you haven’t been making fast enough progress?

Perhaps you get easily side-tracked and lose your focus?

Or maybe you just see the goal as being so unattainable; you stop trying and give up?

If you’re like me, then it’s probably a mix of all three!

The traditional goal process is something we approach often with a lot of gusto in the beginning, but fizzles out quickly once that ugly thing called resistance creeps in and wants to rain on our parade.

Can I let you in on a secret?

The problem with this approach is that by focusing solely on the goal and the desired outcome, you forget to enjoy the actual process of reaching our goal – aka ‘the doing part’.

We get so caught up when we fail or don’t live up to our own lofty expectations, we give up altogether; which is pretty sad when you think about it!

So this year, I invite you to reset and try out a new approach that will have your back for the long haul and see you kicking EVERY single one of your goals next year.

intentional goal setting 2

Say hello to Intentional Goal setting.

Intentional goal setting shifts the focus from the outcome of the goal, to relishing and delighting in the actual process of reaching your goal.

This approach not only leads to a greater sense of joy in taking the action you need to achieve your goal, but furthermore, it creates space for you to appreciate the journey you are on.

There are 3 simple steps to intentionally craft your goals, so let’s dive in!

Step One: Define it.

Goes without saying really.

I’m sure you’re familiar with the S.M.A.R.T approach to creating goals – make it specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused + timely.

Only when you are super clear on what you are setting out to achieve and by when, will you know exactly what you need to do.

Step Two: Declare it.

A goal without a declaration of what you are planning to achieve is meaningless!

You must declare what you want to achieve – you can do this simply by writing down the exact details of your goal into your goals planner, journal, or one of my favourite apps, Day One (this is what I use to record all of my goal progress!).

You see, without having a declaration of your goal, it is nothing more than a wish or a hope.

Make it tangible and own it!

Step Three: Delight in the daily action.

Here’s the thing: an accumulation of small daily actions come together to create something epic.

It really doesn’t matter how slow you go, it only matters that you take daily action to get where you want to be.

My point is, don’t be so quick to jump to the final end point. Enjoying the journey along the way to reaching your goal is where the reward will be that much sweeter + you will find the most joy + satisfaction.

So, starting from today, take one step towards your goal.

Be fully present, lean in to the process and savour every moment.

If you don’t enjoy the process of achieving your goal, then what is the point?

Choose to be intentional in setting your goals and you will not only learn the secret of reaching your dreams, but most importantly, you’ll have fun along the way!
