This week I went on a relaxing and inspiring date at The Vault Cafe, with the lovely Dr. Katherine Dale.
Over a few hours Katherine and I discussed her travel adventures which commenced at age 13, her personal and professional fascination with the female reproductive cycle and her super simple (but very effective) way of staying connected to her purpose and passion (this is a ‘must know!’).
Similar to my my other ‘Date With Ains’ Guests, Katherine has a fascinating back story and a lot of wisdom to share.
Read on and discover what this wonderful woman has to say about clarity, confidence and connection in relation to her life and business!
My Grandma Jess was a great inspiration for me.
Jess was a very confident and independent woman – traveling the world at age 75!
Jess was a health-nut: eating whole foods, avoiding sugars, and taking supplements. She inspired me to consider alternative medicine as a profession.
Since my teens, my fascination has been on understanding the cycles of women’s fertility: menstruation, ovulation and sexuality. Women’s bodies are often seen as a series of medical illnesses. However, using natural remedies and gaining body awareness my medical practice assists women with maintaining a drug-free reproductive system.
As a Canadian growing up it was unusual for anyone to even leave the province, much less the country!
However, I started traveling when I was 13-years old. I headed off on my own on my first flight ever to Rome. For an entire summer I stayed in the mountains of Florence and on the coastal beaches of Italy.
From Florence to Vancouver, to New York, to London and now Hong Kong, I have been traveling and living all over the world ever since!
Moving to Hong Kong was a significant move for me in inspiring the start-up of my fertility practice. Although it has been a vision of mine for many years, I believe that the entrepreneurial spirit and the lack of obstacles in the mindset of Hong Kongers that encouraged the manifestation of my business.
When I have clarity, action feels unhindered.
Clarity allows me to do things in my life happen without resistance. Movement and action easily move forward when the purpose is clear.
In order to become “unstuck” I look at the purpose behind what I am doing. Once I can align the goal I have along with my underlying purpose, then life becomes unstuck.
Letting go of expectations is key to allowing us to move forward. When we can fully appreciate the way our lives are going we can enter the flow.
Ask for help. When I am feeling low in confidence, I often isolate myself. This is the worst thing to do! Other people are an incredible source of energy and encouragement.
Be grateful and say “thank you” every day for the good things that are happening in your life. Thank yourself and your community. Life is pretty awesome.
Recognise the amazing things you have accomplished in your life and write them all down! Keep your accomplishments handy for moments when you are feeling unsure of yourself.
The role of a Naturopath is altruistic and humble. When I am falling away from my purpose it is usually because I have begun focusing on my own recognition and pride. Rather than focusing on helping others, I begin to protect my knowledge and hide information from others.
Whenever I am feeling disconnected, I just think of one person that I have helped.
My patients are asking for my advice and guidance. They put their trust in me. Even being able to help just one person is an incredible honour for me. If everyone were to help just one other person, we would all feel much happier and healthier.
Over the next months I will launch my online pregnancy preparation course. Women will be able to work through the course in order to prepare their bodies for pregnancy. The course will be interactive and fun.
Women wanting to be healthy physically and emotionally ready for pregnancy will benefit from the healthy advice. The course will discuss eating, supplementing and emotional preparation for pregnancy.
Coming to Hong Kong was on our radar as a family – we’d always known we wanted to live in the “East”. While studying Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto I trained in acupuncture, tongue & pulse diagnosis and Five Elements medicine. I knew my medical studies would be enhanced by life in China.
What has really appealed to me is the entrepreneurial spirit. From age 12 I have worked for myself, I love that there are so many people trying to bring their dreams into reality.
There is no resistance from the people of Hong Kong when you present your vision for launching an idea. People are encouraging and positive. Hong Kongers enjoy “doing” rather than merely “talking” about ideas.
Become very focused on what you want to accomplish. The more focused you are on your purpose and your goals the easier they will be to achieve.
Many others have done the work before you. Find people who encourage and support you. Ask for advice and receive assistance when it is offered.
My passion is preparing women to bring “new life” into the world. When a woman knows how she will bring “new life” to the world she will inspire others. We are all inspired and invigorated by the passion of others.
“Invoke the divine, thy will not mine.”
This mantra reminds me that the healing energy is not coming from me. Healing is from within the patient. The energy comes from the medicine that is sourced from our understanding of the earth. As a physician it is important that the needs and the health of the patient remains central to the operation of my practice.
Isn’t Katherine great! I particularly loved her advice around boosting your self-confidence. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, acknowledging your accomplishments and being grateful for what you already do have in your life!
